Frequently Asked Questions
What is a laser hair removal treatment like?
The feeling of laser hair removal is often described as a snapping or ‘hot pinch’ feeling that only lasts a split second. Many patients feel a sense of warmth or tingling for a short time afterward. We offer a cooling system so that any discomfort is minimal, for an effective and painless treatment.
How quickly will I see the effects of laser hair removal?
Each treatment will result in an elimination of even more unwanted hair. Repetition of laser hair removal results in reduction of the hair in the area that is being treated. It typically takes a few treatments to affect all of the active hair follicles growing in any given area.
Most people achieve suitable hair reduction in 5-8 treatments.
Do you offer complimentary consultations?
Yes. During your consultation a SkinTeam Member will explain the laser treatment process and discuss all of your concerns. Some people choose to get treated the same day as their consultation.
Does my hair need to be “grown out” before my treatment?
No. It is actually recommended that you shave the area before being treated. However, waxing, bleaching, tweezing or any other hair removal method that removes the root should be stopped a few days to a week before treatment.
Do you sell packages, and is laser hair removal affordable?
We offer individual and package pricing for your convenience. Every patient differs in the way that their hair responds to the treatment. Most treatment areas require between six and eight treatments, but number of treatments may differ from person to person.
Will I meet Dr. Minuk?
Yes. We are a fully-integrated Dermatology Clinic, Medical Spa & Cosmetic SkinClinic & Laser Centre. Owned, operated and supervised by Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Earl Minuk, a specialist in Skin Care. In most situations you will meet with him following your consultation or during one of your first couple of treatments.
What to Expect During a Laser Hair Removal Treatment in Winnipeg.
Before getting your first treatment you will have a consultation. In your consultation we will determine your skin type, talk about any medications you have been taking and understand your health history. We will review the procedure and any side effects allowing you to make a clear and informed decision.
Smaller treatment areas like upper lip or chin can take only a few minutes, while larger areas like legs or back could take up to an hour.
During the treatment you will be wearing protective eyewear. You’ll be able to see a flash of light but your eyes will be fully covered. Of course our laser technicians performing the treatment wear protective eyewear as well.
Our staff is well trained and confident. We perform several thousand laser hair removal services each year and have been working with hair removal lasers since 1998.
Please arrive on time for your appointment. We also ask that you shave the treatment area prior to your appointment. We realize that shaving the bikini area or other sensitive areas may be tough for some but we encourage you to try as it is typically more comfortable shaving themselves than if we have to. Please make sure that you are freshly showered with clean skin. No lotions, creams or fragrances of any kind should be worn.
Where Can I Get Laser Hair Removal?
Many women feel embarrassed about hair on the face, neck, chest, hands, feet, buttocks, bikini line or other areas. At the same time, men are sometimes embarrassed by excessive hair on their shoulders, backs, noses, ears, eyebrows, hands and other parts. Male laser hair removal of the back, neck, chest, abdomen and shoulders are some of our most common treatment areas.
Laser Hair Removal Treatment Areas
Most people are good candidates for laser hair removal. We use a variety of laser wavelengths to treat all skin types.
Most Popular Treatment Areas for Women:
- Bikini line/Brazilian
- Stomach Area
Most Popular Treatment Areas for Men:
The main reasons that people get laser hair removal include:To remove embarrassing, unsightly and unwanted facial hair-for esteem reasons or to boost self confidence
PCOS: a hormone imbalance in women that stimulates facial hair growth. We understand this problem!
To get hair-free and bump-free smooth skin
To reduce unsightly and painful ingrown hair
To stop waxing, tweezing or shaving
To remove hair that interferes with activities or work for professionals such as bodybuilders, athletes and actors.
Can you get Brazilian Laser Hair Removal?
We all know about Brazilian Bikini waxes, but what about laser? We offer full Brazilian Laser Treatments.
A full Brazilian bikini treatment is geared towards those who want nothing more than a neat strip of hair (or nothing at all!). A full Brazilian will leave you completely bare-down-there with no pubic hair whatsoever. This is a very popular procedure because many women do not want to worry about bikini bumps or ingrown hairs.
Can Men Get Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal is a very common treatment among men. Many men simply want smoother looking skin, while others get laser hair removal because their hair interferes with their work (bodybuilders, athletes, actors).
Most commonly, men get laser hair removal on their back, chest and abdomen. Other treatment areas include face and neck, ears, nose, arms, legs and bathing suit line.
Laser hair removal is safe and effective on men. Typically 5-8 treatments are needed to get the desired result.
