Saying Goodbye to Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are not only limited to people who are in growth stages or pregnant women – both men and women can get stretch marks on their belly, thigh, hips, breasts, upper arms and lower back.

Stretch marks form when the skin’s dermis breaks down after being stretched, either from pregnancy, weight gain, or even extreme weight loss. The marks can vary in colour but are often red or purple before developing a silver or white appearance on the skin.

At Dr. Minuk’s Centre, we offer several different treatments for stretch marks. Some patients may also choose to use a combination of treatments for optimum results.

The first is laser treatment. Dr. Minuk introduced advanced laser skin care to Winnipeg over 10 years ago. Our Fraxel® Skin Resurfacing treatment is often referred to as the magic eraser. This laser resurfaces the skin texture and complexion by producing thousands of deep, microscopic columns in the skin. Another option is micro-dermabrasion treatment. Micro-dermabrasion is not a chemical, laser or surgical procedure. Instead, the Parisian Peel system gently buffs the surface of your skin to remove the rough outer layer of cells and uncover the smoother, softer skin beneath.

Dr. Minuk uses a combination of laser and micro-dermabrasion, along with prescription creams to manage stretch marks. We now carry Stratamark – available in a 50 gm tube. Stratamark prevents stretch marks during pregnancy and growth spurts, and softens/flattens existing stretch marks. In addition, Stratamark reduces redness and the discomfort associated with stretch marks.
